Thirty-four years ago our youngest son, who was then nine years old, was brought back from the hospital after the third trip in two years. His so-called inheritance of tubercular glands and abscesses had held him in bondage, but the surgeons assured us that they had removed every gland and there could be no further swellings. Our next-door neighbor at a camp where we were staying was a Christian Scientist, and when in a short time our son's condition became worse than ever, she asked if I was willing that she should help him. To me this only meant cleansing the continuous, unsightly discharge which was now coming from his ears also. His fretting stopped, and the second morning afterwards I exclaimed, "Why, son, you are well!" After I had asked many probing questions, his explanation of what had taken place was: "She told me the truth about myself; that God is my Father, and if God couldn't have swollen glands, then I couldn't either. That was all, and I knew it was true." The healing was complete and permanent, so that even the scars of the operations were gone.

The following spring my husband was ill with lobar pneumonia, and the doctors told me he could not live until morning. At his request I called the same Christian Scientist, who took up work for him. On the second morning, when the doctor came to see why he hail not been called, he found the patient entirely free from sickness, although still very weak. He did not call again.

At the birth of the son previously mentioned, the doctors told me that I could never give birth to another child and live. Yet the summer following these healings our daughter was born in less than an hour under Christian Science treatment. I had no medical attention prior to the birth, but was obedient to the law of the state that a physician be present at a birth. I was up, taking entire care of the baby, after the seventh day. Convinced that we needed this healing truth, my mother and I withdrew from the orthodox church of which we were members and were received into The Mother Church.
