DOMINION OVER SORROW

The cure for sorrow is the understanding of that Love which knows no sorrow, no unhappiness, no backward-looking regret. The beauty and gladness of true being fill the thought of him who is actively expressing Love, blotting out unlovely shadows with the brightness of reality. All sense of sorrow disappears before a joyous recognition that there is no occasion for it in God's good plan.

It was Love that our Master, Christ Jesus, expressed when confronted with sorrow. He expressed Love so fully that he was enabled to rise above the suggestions of mortal mind and lift the thoughts of others to recognize God's omnipotent care and love. Thus the healing power of Love blessed not only himself but those about him.

In the fourteenth chapter of Matthew it is stated that the disciples of John the Baptist came to Jesus and informed him of the death of their leader at the hands of Herod, the tetrarch, or governor, of Galilee. This must have been distressing news to Jesus, but he did not yield to the arguments of sorrow. Instead, he sought a quiet place, there to commune with his heavenly Father and gain the assurance and calm that such communion brings. This done, he "went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick."
