Prayer is not merely claiming a hearing; it is giving one. It is not only speaking; it is listening. And as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are the words we hear greater than the words we speak. The important thing is not that we should prevail but that God should. It is He, not we, who is the Master and Guide. And He speaks to you and me as He spoke to men of old who counted in this life, by the still small voice of conscience. Daily would I listen to it, for it speaks of a highway that leads to love and justice and peace.
