Vereeniging, Transvall, Union of South Africa (Society).

Christian Science Society, Vereeniging, dedicated its church edifice during the regular morning service on Sunday, May 4, 1947.

The society had its beginning in 1924, when a few students met in a private house to hold services. At the end of 1925 the Sons of England Hall was rented, where services, testimony meetings, and Sunday School were held.

The group became an authorized Christian Science Society in 1934, a branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. The same year land was acquired in Victoria Avenue for the purpose of erecting a church edifice thereon, and this land was fully paid for in February, 1938.

In 1936 the first Christian Science lecture was given in Vereeniging. A Reading Room was opened to the public in Beaconsfield Avenue in 1937. In 1938 the church edifice was built, and the first service, the Thanksgiving service, was held in the church on Thursday, December 1, of the same year.
