"LOVE'S ENDOWMENT" POLICY
In the insurance field much emphasis is placed on the advantages an endowment policy gives to its holder, for such a policy, maintained by stipulated premiums over a certain number of years, will return to the policy holder a net sum of money with accrued interest and coverage. That we as Christian Scientists receive endowments of vast spiritual wealth and beauty when we give premiums of spiritual qualities was clearly unfolded to a student of Christian Science.
The first day in her new house she opened at random "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and her eyes were directed to the marginal note (p. 248), "Love's endowment." Another note she had never seen before also drew her attention (p. 280), "The things of God are beautiful."
With sudden inspiration and clarity she perceived that in the two years she and her family had been seeking to buy a house she had been giving regular premiums of faith, patience, and perseverance. She realized that the better concept of home gained through study and diligent effort was the accruing interest, and that the ultimate finding of their home was the visible evidence of "Love's endowment." When occupancy of the house was not immediately gained and hindrance after hindrance arose, help was sought from a consecrated practitioner. Unwavering courage, confidence, and assurance that God had guided them to this house, and that they would be in it at the right time, were premiums that had to be met again and again in the ensuing months. The day came when through harmonious arrangements with the previous occupants possession was completed. As she looks now at the comfort of her house, she thanks her heavenly Father for the clearer realization of what home is, a realization which made manifest this beautiful home, and which hints that "the things of God are beautiful."
It is cause for great gratitude and rejoicing when the need of a home is quickly met, and we hear of many who through their understanding of Christian Science have solved the problems arising from an acute housing shortage rapidly, satisfactorily, and in most unsought ways. But there may be those now living under crowded conditions or in congested areas who are perhaps wishfully planning or futilely thinking of a better home in the remote future. Regardless of how long they may have worked and prayed for betterment, the time will surely come when it will appear. Seeming slowness in finding the solution of an undesirable situation is ever a call for more spiritual effort, study, and application, and the Bible and the teachings of Christian Science never fail to provide the inspiration and the way for the solution of all inharmonious experiences.
Just here a beginner in Christian Science may ask: "How shall I overcome the belief of lack and limitation that seems so real and apparent? How may I become the recipient of 'Love's endowment'?" Christian Science teaches that God, divine Love, is Father-Mother, and that man is ever the child of His care and beneficence. Because the very nature of God is Love, man is constantly endowed with the fullness of Life, expressed in health, supply, abundance, and happiness. In order to prove these truths, we need to turn from the false arguments of depletion, scarcity, shortage, or any other lack, to God, Love, and the ever-presence of His goodness. It is one's limited material sense of existence which would question God's outpouring of blessings. He is always giving! Let us accept this endowment of Love and unreservedly trust in divine Love, which is ever at hand to bless.
As we lift our thought in appreciation to God and in loving-kindness to our fellow man, we can always be certain of "Love's endowment" evidenced in His guidance, protection, and care.
"Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared" (Ex. 23:20) is a promise as assured now as when given to the Israelites of old. God's promises are kept! And, veritably, the evidences of "Love's endowment" will be abundantly seen in our human experience.
