Crumbs of Comfort

Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 234), "Whatever inspires with wisdom, Truth, or Love—be it song, sermon, or Science—blesses the human family with crumbs of comfort from Christ's table, feeding the hungry and giving living waters to the thirsty." Are we doing anything about feeding "the human family with crumbs of comfort from Christ's table"?

A way always open to the Christian Scientist is the giving of testimonies at our Wednesday meetings. When I first began to attend a Christian Science church, I was not awake to the importance of testimony meetings, and for some time would not attend them. When I did, this is how I afterwards described one of these meetings to a friend: "It was not emotional at all, but a very sacred occasion. People stood up in all parts of the church and calmly and sincerely told of their healings. It was like listening to little sermons of gratitude."

We can all give praise to God for His blessings. As may be seen from Article VIII, Section 24, of the Manual of The Mother Church, Mrs. Eddy attached much importance to the giving of testimonies of healing and directed that a part of the Wednesday meeting should be devoted to the giving of such testimonies. The student of Christian Science knows that the choice of the readings from the desk is the result of prayerful study on the part of the Reader, and that the readings are the Word of God, fraught with blessing for all. But the stranger and the beginner in Christian Science want to hear above all else testimonies attesting the healing power of Christian Science. It was these testimonies given so earnestly and convincingly that impressed me at the first testimony meeting I attended.
