Ashington, England (First Church).

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Ashington, dedicated its church building recently. This organization had its beginnings in 1920, when a few students met in a private house to hold services. As the group grew in numbers they rented a photographer's studio from the husband of a student who had been raised from invalidism by Christian Science. Here services were held every Sunday, and in January, 1925, the group became an authorized Christian Science Society. In 1930 the first Christian Science lecture was given in Ashington.

The society continued to grow and, in 1937, became First Church of Christ, Scientist, Ashington, holding a Sunday School, midweek testimony meetings, and opening a public Reading Room. In January, 1930, they had bought a plot on Institute Road, and began to build their present structure, which was opened for services the next year.
