"It is our ignorance of God, the divine Principle, which produces apparent discord and the right understanding of Him restores harmony" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 390). I am so grateful that through the teachings of Christian Science I am learning to know God aright, and this understanding of Him and of my relation to Him as a spiritual idea has many times brought harmony where discord seemed to be.
My introduction to this truth came through my mother's healing. From my earliest recollection she had heart disease. One winter this condition became so acute that she was confined to her bed most of the time. But presently I noticed that she was running upstairs, a thing I had never seen her do before. Then my mother told us that a chance acquaintance in a grocery store had spoken to my sister about Christian Science, and after having treatment from a Christian Science practitioner she had been healed of the heart trouble.
While I acknowledged this healing and attended Wednesday evening testimony meetings with my mother, I was reluctant to leave the church of which I was a member. Not only was I attached to the church, but I was a young girl in a large city and all my friends and social activity centered around that church, But when I was stricken with scarlet fever and grew no better after two weeks of medical care, I asked my mother if it was right for me to seek aid from a Christian Science practitioner when I had not left the other church. She assured me that it was, and in two days I was up and soon completely healed.
