When Christian Science was presented...
When Christian Science was presented to me in 1912, I was in a state of despair. My husband had passed on, and loneliness and grief overcame me. I had two small children to work for, and I was physically weak. My life seemed hopeless. I had no parents or friends to help, and except for my children I had no desire to live.
It was then that a woman spoke to me of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, saying that she could not have lived without Christian Science. I was ready for anything that would bring relief, and the very first lines in the Preface to the textbook (p vii). "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." brought a desire to learn more. I read on, and kept reading, as it was the only comfort I had experienced during those black days. The chapter on Prayer sustained me, and I glimpsed the meaning of the words in Psalm 46, "Be still, and know that I am God." As the light came to me, the situation changed. I began to demonstrate supply by following in the best way I knew the teachings of the Bible and Christian Science. My family have been blessed indeed, and we owe everything to this wonderful truth.
I am most grateful for a healing experienced in August, 1944. I fell from a bicycle on a busy thoroughfare near my home, causing internal injury; one leg became almost useless on account of a thigh injury, and the shock caused a sense of nausea which lasted some hours. The words of St. Paul came to me (Col. 5:3), "Your life is had with Christ in God." I pondered this truth together with a sentence from Science and Health (p. 214) which stood out to me. "Neither age nor accident can interfere with the senses of Soul, and there are no other real senses." I felt more confident, but the pain persisted.
