Christian Science came into our...

Christian Science came into our home when I was a child of seven, through a friend of my father's. My father had been studying and applying this Science for less than a year when an accident occurred, and the efficacy of the healing power of Truth was proved beyond a doubt.

Returning from school one day. I was run over by a light truck, the rear wheel passing over my stomach. I was picked up from the road unconscious and carried into a neighbor's house. After my mother arrived, the doctor, who had been summoned by the neighbor, was dismissed, and I was taken home and put to bed. When my father returned home, he took up work in Christian Science on the case. The following morning I was up, and jumping off the back steps, much to the surprise and consternation of the neighbors.

Through childhood I was protected from many contagious children's diseases, and seldom experienced any illnesses. After I was married and my daughter was born, there came a testing time which was the turning point of my life. My husband was not at that time a Christian Scientist, and I was getting farther and farther away from it myself. Then when my daughter was three weeks old, she was stricken with a serious bowel trouble. My husband called a doctor, but medical help was of no avail, for she steadily grew worse. After several calls the doctor told us that there was no hope of saving the child.

My sister, who was staying with me at the time, urged me to take the child to a neighboring town, where there was a Christian Science church, and to try to locate a practitioner. My husband objected to taking the child out, because it was cold and raining hard, and he did not believe there was any help for her. I told him that his way had not benefited the child, and now I was going to try God's way. We went to a neighboring town and found a practitioner, who took the case. She talked with me for a few minutes; then I started home with the baby. The healing took place as we drove into our yard, less than an hour after leaving the practitioner.

I shall never cease to be grateful for this healing, nor shall I ever forget the light which flooded my consciousness the next day while studying passages from the Bible and from our textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. In Matthew 4:16 we read. "The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up." My daughter is now seventeen years of age.

Christian Science has been both a preventive and a curative, never failing when correctly applied. How true indeed is our Leader's statement in Science and Health (p. 494). "Divine Love always ha met and always will meet every human need."

This testimony would not be complete without an expression of gratitude for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and for the practitioners who have lovingly helped me to gain a better understanding of this truth which Jesus taught; also for having had the privilege of class instruction, and for the Christian Science periodicals, which come into our home to bless us.—(Mrs.) Clara Laundry, Ogdensburg, New York.

I am the daughter who is referred to in my mother's testimony. I also wish to express my gratitude for healings received in Christian Science, and for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church.

A demonstration which is outstanding to me took place recently during my mid-year exams. I was getting such low marks in one subject that my teacher had discussed the matter with the principal of the school, telling him that she believed it was useless for me to take the examination. I was called into the office that same day, and the principal told me what the teacher had said. I immediately asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner, and treatment was given at once. I was allowed to take the examination and passed the subject with a very high mark much, to the surprise of my teacher.

I am grateful for Christian Science, and for the help which I have received from practitioners.
