Christian Science came into my...

Christian Science came into my life as an answer to the most sincere prayer I had ever prayed. As I began to grow up, the teachings of the church I attended failed to satisfy me, so I read various books about different religions in my search for Truth. Finally, one book seemed to knock the bottom out of everything I had believed in, and the God to whom I had always turned in trouble seemed to have been taken from me. I prayed that I might find the truth about God and the universe, whatever it might be.

Soon I was led, through a talk with a Christian Scientist, to borrow from a Reading Room the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Like the Psalmist, my soul thirsted for God, and "I took the little book ... and ate it up" (Rev. 10:10) with unspeakable joy, as sentence after sentence answered to my entire satisfaction every question that had been troubling me. The Bible, which I had always loved, was spiritually illumined as never before, and I knew that Truth had at last been revealed to me.

Since that first reading of the textbook, Christian Science has been the great interest, the all-pervading influence, in my life. I have been one of those who have made progress slowly, and have had to wrestle much with discouragement. But looking back over a long period of time, I am deeply grateful for the gradual purification and regeneration which Christ, Truth, has brought about in my consciousness, enabling me to understand something of what the Revelator meant (Rev. 2:17) when he spoke of the "white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it."
