Church Dedications

Wimbledon, Surrey, England (First Church).
First Church of Christ, Scientist, Wimbledon, was dedicated on Sunday, March 18, 1945.
The first Christian Science service in this field was held in Avenue Hall, Avenue Road, West Wimbledon, on February 3, 1924. On March 18, a public Reading Room was opened in the Broadway. A Sunday school was first held in the home of a member on the Ridgeway Wimbledon. Later it was moved to Spencer Hall, Worple Road.
[In September, 1924, the group was recognized as Christian Science Society, Wimbledon.] In October, 1924, the site of the present church building at 59 Worple Road, Wimbledon, was purchased.
Four years later, in March, 1928, the society became First Church of Christ, Scientist, Wimbledon, a branch of The Mother Church.
