Although I was greatly in need...

Although I was greatly in need of physical healing at the time I began the study of Christian Science, I did not turn to it for that purpose. I had only one desire, to gain a better understanding of the Bible and of God, and of what was required of me in the plan of salvation taught by Christ Jesus. As I read, I became so engrossed in the spiritual sense of Life that, as nearly as is possible, I forgot my body, with the result that after studying the Christian Science textbook for a few weeks I was completely healed of tuberculosis of the lungs. I had been having medical treatment for this, but without any favorable results. I was supposed to have inherited this difficulty, for my mother had passed on from this disease when I was a small child.

My healing, which took place in 1912, was accomplished solely through the reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. In 1919, a testimony relating this healing was published in the Christian Science Sentinel. Over a period of thirty-three years the healing has been permanent, and there has been no return of any of the symptoms. I am very grateful for this, and for the many other healings which my family and I have received through the study of the Bible and the authorized Christian Science literature. Our study and application of the truth has brought relief from many forms of error and solved many problems for us. It has promoted harmony and has increased our spiritual understanding.

I am especially grateful at this time for freedom from fear in regard to a loved one now taking part in war operations in enemy territory, and for the knowledge that he, too, is relying on his understanding of God, gained in Christian Science, for his protection and safety.
