Reading Room Notes

The Sentinel of May 29, 1943, carried an invitation to members of The Mother Church, and particularly librarians, to contribute, from time to time, helpful, healing experiences in our Reading Rooms. The invitation still stands, and contributions should be sent to the Journal and Sentinel Editorial Department. The following are excerpts from reports received from Reading Room librarians.

A man came into the Reading Room, after looking over the books in the window, and said: "Seeing your books reminded me of my mother, who loved Christian Science. When I was a small boy and a problem arose, she would take me on her knee and read to me from a certain book, and always it was the same thing that she read. Soon all would be well." Then earnestly he said, "Do you think you could tell me the name of that book and what it was my mother read to me?" The librarian assured him that she could, and turned to "the scientific statement of being" on page 468 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

His face lighted up, and he said: "Yes, that's it; but I have gotten a long way from Christian Science, and now everything has gone wrong in my home and in my business. But as I looked into your window I thought if I could only find what it was my mother read to me it would help."
