Renewing Our Strength through Prayer

The Very Rev. Edwin J. van Etten, D. D.,
in a pamphlet entitled "Man's Extremity"
Boston, Massachusetts

The great word to be remembered about prayer is that there are no closed doors. God is not shut out of His universe. There is never a prayer without its answer. Prayer means courage and confidence and strength....Prayer means a standing ground where one raises his standard of hope and lights his fire of faith. It is a blessed thing that this light and this fire serve not only one's own need but prove inspiration and power for other people. When we turn even a little—when we take our first steps—ever such short ones!—while we are yet a great way off, the Father sees us and runs to meet us.
