Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England (First Church).
Dedication services of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Mansfield, were held on Sunday, January 7, 1945. The following is a brief history of the church.
In 1903 a woman was instantaneously healed by a Christian Scientist who was visiting Mansfield. She studied Christian Science, and meetings were held in her home from 1906 until 1909, when a small public meeting place was secured.
In November, 1916, an organized Christian Science Society was formed, and in the same month a site for a church building was purchased. Four years later, on November 13, 1920, the foundation stone was laid, and the first services were held in the new building in January, 1921.
In May, 1935, the society became First Church of Christ, Scientist, Mansfield, a branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ. Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
To meet a growing need, an additional building was purchased in 1938 to house the Sunday school.
