Letters to the Press from Christian Science Committees on Publication

James A. Vincent, Committee on Publication for Northern California Stockton Record

In your recent issue you quoted a doctor as saying that under his proposed plan of compulsory medical care, "chiropractors, osteopaths, naturopaths, midwives, Christian Science and all associated forms of abortive medical advice would be eliminated and such persons forbidden by law to either treat patients or collect fees."

The Christian Science practitioner does not give medical advice. He does obey Jesus' commands to "preach the gospel" and to "heal the sick." Healing the sick through prayer alone is an essential part of the Christian Science religion. Fair-minded people, including men of the medical profession, recognize that, in thus ministering to mankind's spiritual needs, the Christian Science practitioner is entitled to receive compensation, as do those of other religions who devote their time to serve mankind.
