Excerpts from Letters Concerning Christian Science Wartime Activities
[From a Christian Science Wartime Minister]
While I was working for a soldier with an abscessed tooth, I received word that he had been rushed to the hospital for an operation for acute appendicitis. I went right out to see him. While I was there, the doctor came in and said they were only waiting for the blood count to be reported. The doctor pointed out the symptoms and said it was a typical case of appendicitis. The report came in soon afterward and the doctor said, "We shall have to operate before midnight." The patient refused the operation and released the hospital of all responsibility.
Treatment in Christian Science was continued and the next day the patient was moved to another ward. Five days from the time I first called, the man was back on duty entirely free.
