Where to Find Work

[Of Special Interest to Youth]

Man includes in his being the right idea of activity, place, and supply. When Jesus said, "The kingdom of God is within you" (Luke 17:21), he must have known that man includes all ideas which comprise his completeness. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 475) Mary Baker Eddy says of man, "He is the compound idea of God, including all right ideas." Therefore, abundance of all God-bestowed supplies belongs to man now. Any arguments contrary to this fact will disappear from one's experience in proportion as he holds this truth firmly in thought. In Science and Health (p. 261) Mrs. Eddy says, "Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts."

The false concept of man as physical would argue that the good and beautiful must necessarily be limited even if attainable. Outworn theological notions would make it a sin to desire more than the meager necessities of physical existence. Fear would convince one that good is easily lost. Self-condemnation would persuade the thinker that he is not worthy of the good he desires. Human will would strive to cling to certain persons, places, or things which it chooses to call both necessary and good. Christian Science insists that God good, is all-powerful and that man includes "all right ideas." Steadfast clinging to these scientific facts will bring the proper manifestation into everyday human experience. Statements of Truth from the Christian Science textbook can always be proved because they are true.

A girl who was faced with the immediate necessity of supporting herself hundreds of miles from her family at the close of a summer school term, was told by a Christian Scientist that God is Mind and that man is Mind's idea. The Scientist, in talking to her, emphasized the necessity of being willing to let God show her the way, and the girl finally applied for and accepted housework. Since she disliked this particular kind of work more than any other, and her training had been for teaching, she found she had to cling very firmly to the right idea of God, as it had been explained to her by her friend, to keep pride and self-will from blocking her progress.
