Excerpts from Letters Concerning Christian Science Wartime Activities

[From the Christian Science Wartime Committee in London]

A woman received some clothing for her children two years ago, and, although she was grateful at the time, nothing more was heard of her until a few weeks ago, when she learned that her husband, who was serving in the Army in India, was dangerously ill. In her own words, she "stood still and cried, 'O God, what can I do?'" Immediately the thought came to her to visit the Christian Science almoner. She asked that everything possible should be done to help, so treatment was at once given, and the Christian Science Officiating Minister in India was asked to visit the hospital where the man was under observation. The almoner sent us the following report:

"The man gained eleven pounds in three days after help was requested. He wants his wife to go on with the study of Christian Science, as he has noticed such a change in her letters. When he comes home he will take up the study with her. The wife was healed in one Christian Science treatment of a chronic painful condition, and asked for help for a child whom she is bringing to Sunday school next Sunday. She has attended all the testimony meetings and is going to buy her own textbook, 'Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures' by Mary Baker Eddy. There had not been a Bible in her house until we gave her one, and she says with its coming her whole life has been completely changed. This is indeed a rich fruitage from a few clothes given two years ago.'
