I should like to express my gratitude for the many benefits I have received through the study and application of Christian Science since I became interested in it over five years ago, and am very grateful for all the blessings it has brought to me. I have received much help spiritually and physically since first reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and I have gained a better understanding of the Bible.

My first healings occurred in 1936 after I had asked for Christian Science treatment for injuries received in a serious automobile accident. I was taken to a hospital, where I remained unconscious for over a week. Examinations and X-ray pictures revealed nine fractured ribs, a broken collarbone, a badly pulled arm and shoulder, basal skull fracture, shock, internal injuries, a crushed chest, and five crushed vertebrae. After I entered the hospital, erysipelas developed over the entire body. Because of the complication of injuries they were unable to put me in a cast or saddle.

After I regained consciousness, I did not respond to medical treatment. I was very nervous, and so easily upset that I was allowed only one visitor a day and that one for only a minute. The physicians held out no hope for my recovery because of the basal skull fracture. They also stated that even if I did recover I should never be able to walk again or to use my back.
