When I receive my Sentinel each week, I read the testimonies first, which makes me realize that I should have contributed mine long ago, since they mean so much to me.

Like many others, I took up the study of Christian Science for physical healing. I was taken with an illness and called our family physician. He said that I was in a very bad condition, but did not say what the trouble was. The condition did not improve, and when a friend came in to see me and said, "You are affected just as my husband was," I became very much frightened because her husband had been operated on and died. All my life I had had a terrible fear of operations, and if Christian Science had never done any more for me than to relieve me of that fear, it would still be worth all the effort and study I have put into it.

I wrote my mother and sister, telling them of my fears. My sister wrote to an aunt, who was a Scientist, and asked her to help me. She sent me some Christian Science literature. I commenced to study in earnest and was healed. My first demonstration in Christian Science took place before I ever saw a copy of the textbook, just from the assimilation of the truths I had read in the Sentinel.
