Laying Foundation Stones for the Kingdom

Elizabeth K. Marquardt, in a letter to the Journal Courier, New Haven, Connecticut

In these days of turmoil and confusion, no true solution of the problems with which we are faced can be found merely by trying one experiment after another. We must get down to rock bottom and start from there to build a sound foundation for the new world order. We must clear away the debris just as we must clear away the burned timbers after the fire has burned itself out. The foundation is intact, ready for the new timbers.

We must have co-operation and consider that which will be for the good of all the nations concerned and not just for our own America. We must see the mistakes made at the last peace conference and rectify them. We must put hate and condemnation behind and not carry our grievances into our new world order. The people of the countries which have suffered most by the conflict must be given just consideration. We must find a means of feeding, clothing, and sheltering those who are hungry, naked, and homeless.
