Bethesda
(Flowing Water)
Beside
Bethesda's pool a cripple lay,
As he had lain for many a weary year,
Watching while others in a similar case
Were helped into the pool by willing hands.
He was alone—so he believed—until
One day the Master came and spoke to him
(Who understood neglect and loneliness).
"Wilt thou be whole?" he asked the crippled one.
The pent-up yearning of a weight of years
Came rushing from his lips—
"Then take thy bed and walk!" the Master said.
A clearer stream than any turbid pool
Had touched his thought, and he was whole again.
