Sin Can Be Destroyed
Man lives by divine right. His business is to express God. When we realize these facts, we see that, irrespective of any personal choice or will of our own, we have now the Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus," because unity with God is God's law for man. Christian Science teaches that we are not helpless creatures of chance; that we can, therefore, have dominion over sin.
The theology of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, destroys sin and saves the sinner. It separates sin from the individual and quickens his spiritual sense. "If sin makes sinners," writes Mrs. Eddy (ibid., p. 270), "Truth and Love alone can unmake them."
Only as sin is destroyed is it forgiven. Its destruction is accomplished through the love of good and its establishment in the human consciousness. When Christ, Truth, enters the human heart, it brings a love of good. This newborn affection dispels the love of sin and sin itself. Here, then, is the infallible rule which Christian Science presents: recognize the error, deny its so-called reality and attraction, resist it, declare the truth regarding God and man, and live in the truth. The Christ-method is the only sure way out of error. This is why the mission of Christ Jesus is immeasurably important to mankind.
