The Blessings of Obedience

The Bible provides abundant proof that great blessings come to all who are obedient to the voice of Truth. For example, in Exodus we read that the children of Israel, standing before the Red Sea, were commanded of God to "go forward." Doubtless the sea appeared dangerous and forbidding to them. Yet they obediently went forward, and the sea opened before them, enabling them to escape the pursuing forces of Pharaoh.

When Naaman, captain of the hosts of the king of Syria, desired to be healed of leprosy, he was told to "go and wash in Jordan seven times" (II Kings 5:10). Apparently the command seemed absurd and insulting to one in his high position, so he refused. But later he reconsidered the matter, and after mastering a sense of pride and disobedience he "dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean."

Familiar is the command of Christ Jesus (John 21:6), "Cast the net on the right side." Despite the fact that the disciples had toiled all night and caught nothing, they obediently cast the net, as they had been commanded, "and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes."
