"Freely give"
Testimonies of Christian Science healing heard at our Wednesday evening meetings are a free gift of priceless importance not only to the hearers, but also to the givers. They imply a sympathetic concern for the weary sufferer, and that is a direct manifestation of God's loving helpfulness. If is written; "Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord" (Isa. 43:10). And our Master commanded (Matt. 10:7,8): "As ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. ... Freely ye have received, freely give."
Many times over has some hearer at one of these meetings freely received his physical healing. Others have received the gift of courage to replace a feeling of despair, a gift of strength to obliterate a sense of wavering faith, or the gift of a radiant hope that health can be gained by understanding of, and exclusive reliance upon, divine Love. It is the gratitude expressed by the one relating these healings that captures the thoughts of the hearers and brings to them the message that they too can be delivered from sickness and sin. For these testimonies of healing, when rightly presented, give living proof of the potency of Love.
Some of the most wonderful instances of healing have not yet been told these public meetings. The reason advanced for this reluctance to testify is often expressed in the remarks, "I just can't get up," or, "I don't seem to be able to think of things to say that will be interesting." This stultifying sense of helplessness is an error which many students have to grapple with, but the same Love that cured their sicknesses will just as certainly free students from this dire bondage; and this has been proved many times.
