It has been many years since I began to read and study Christian Science. For several years previous to taking up this study I had been ill and under the care of reputable physicians much of the time. Finally I became very ill with influenza, from which I seemed unable to recuperate. As a last resort the physician in charge of my case recommended a change of climate, which I tried without results.

Then a kind friend presented me with a copy of the Bible, together with a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. It was the first time I had ever seen the Christian Science textbook. I became so interested in it that I read the book from cover to cover.

My parents were never affiliated with any church, so I had not been sent to Sunday school, and had been brought up without religious training, other than being taught to do what was right. Therefore I was able to read the textbook with an open mind.
