Whitley Bay, Northumberland, England (First Church).

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Whitley Bay, was dedicated recently. A brief history of the church was read at morning and evening services.

The remarkable healing of a woman who had been an invalid for many years first aroused interest in Christian Science in the Whitley Bay district. The first service was held in Temperance Hall, Co-operative Buildings, on November 10, 1912, and larger premises were required by the following summer.

A Sunday school was opened in October. 1914, and in February, 1915, a Christian Science Society was organized. Services were held in Exchange Hall from July, 1913, until 1920, when a temporary building was erected at the bottom of Holly Avenue, on a plot of land which had been purchased by the society.

On March 9, 1921, the society became First Church of Christ, Scientist, Whitley Bay. The building of the present church was begun in 1932, and the first service was held in the new building on February 5, 1933.
