A number of years ago I attended...
A number of years ago I attended a Christian Science lecture. Our church had requested its members to work to realize that there would be healing at the lecture. While waiting for the lecturer to appear, I spent my time knowing that we were there to hear the Word of Truth, rather than a material personality, and that the truth would help and heal every receptive heart in that house. I did this instead of talking to my companion. The lecturer appeared, and the beauty of his message was such that I said to myself, "Oh, if I could only hear him talk like that every day for a week, I should be healed," little knowing that I should be instantaneously healed upon my return home.
I had been suffering from rheumatism for probably two years, and also from heart trouble. Although I kept on trying to overcome these difficulties, hope had become dim. On the way home two errors in my thinking were uncovered to me: pride and seeing evil as real in someone else. On reaching home I read not more than a paragraph in "Unity of Good" by Mary Baker Eddy, when suddenly I felt the pain leaving my arm and shoulder, and I was healed. Oh! the relief experienced and the gratitude felt for that wonderful lecture and also for the fact that I had heeded the church's request. While trying to realize the healing for others first, I had not thought of myself.
This took place on a damp, rainy afternoon, when I usually felt worse, showing that it is not really the weather, but mortal mind which makes us suffer. Divine Mind makes us well.
