Shaping Our Views

In color photography a small gadget is sold which holds the developed film slide. This is called a "viewer," and inside is a tiny electric bulb shining through the picture and revealing the different colors. On one occasion while I was using it, I was reminded of the spiritual light that our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has thrown upon the Bible. This shining light of Truth found in her writings reveals the hidden treasures of that sacred Book, disclosing to all mankind hitherto unrecognized spiritual facts and laws.

Although I was brought up in an orthodox church and heard the Scriptures read every Sunday from the pulpit, I never dreamed that the truth contained in the Bible would heal the sick. After I gained a more spiritual view, however, a light shone through many Scriptural passages, illuminating them with a new, living glow.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 246) Mrs. Eddy says: "Life is eternal. We should find this out, and begin the demonstration thereof. Life and goodness are immortal. Let us then shape our views of existence into loveliness, freshness, and continuity, rather than into age and blight." As we obtain accurate views of life in Christian Science, we experience health, freedom, success, and lay hold on eternal life; but to entertain false views is to open the door to the beliefs of sin, selfishness, limitation, and death. False views of God and man are the cause of all suffering. Correct views magnify God, good, and help us to heal ourselves and others.
