"No Vacancy"

In the present world crisis possibly no group of words has occasioned more concern to the home seeker than those contained in notices displayed on apartment entrances or hotel desks, "No Vacancy." This forbidding sign has sent many from door to door and caused many to suffer disappointment and even despair.

Such was the experience of the writer until the demand to reverse this slogan resulted in the analysis of its fallacy. Why do the words "No Vacancy" sometimes present a frightening human picture, but when considered scientifically bring true comfort?

Mrs. Eddy gives the solution. On page 473 of her book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" she writes, "God is everywhere, and nothing apart from Him is present or has power." God fills immensity. Where then is vacancy? Obviously there can be none. Furthermore, since God is all-knowing, all-wise, and all-loving, His plan for each of His children must include a home. As we accept these spiritual facts and recognize the control of His beneficent law we become conscious of man's dwelling place, which in its permanency knows neither loss nor eviction.
