I began the study of Christian Science...
I began the study of Christian Science in 1903 after a dear friend presented my mother with a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
For many years I was employed as a bookkeeper and wore glasses attached to a chain which, in turn, was attached to an automatic winding device. Thirty-five years ago, while I was using the telephone, the chain on my glasses caught on the telephone and the automatic winder went into action, jerking the glasses off. The glasses struck my face just below the right eye, cutting the skin slightly. I continued working and gave no thought to the small cut. Several days later my face became slightly inflamed, painful, and unsightly.
Although I asked help of a Christian Science practitioner, I also consulted an eye specialist who told me that I had a virulent form of facial cancer.
