I am deeply grateful for all the benefits Christian Science has brought to me. I have known no other religious teaching, and my experience has been a happy and protected one. Even though I have been blessed more through the preventive powers of Christian Science than through its healing efficacy, I have had proofs of this too.

When I was a child, my younger sister, then only six, was struck by an automobile. At the time, my mother was a very young student of Christian Science, and her family and my father's strongly opposed this religion. Nevertheless, my mother took a radical stand for Truth, and lovingly refused to prefer charges against the driver or to accept his offer to pay for any doctor or hospital service necessary. As soon as possible a Christian Science practitioner was called, my sister was made comfortable, and then my mother left her alone—alone with God—while she went to the piano and sang hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal.

The accident had resulted in concussion of the brain, marked by periods of delirium during which my sister's eyes became crossed. Every discordant condition that presented itself was overcome as the unchangeable law of God was invoked. Although the healing was slow, it was complete. This was the first real test of Christian Science in our home, and it affected all of us profoundly.
