One Sunday morning, early in...

One Sunday morning, early in September. 1942, while I was having a bath, the entire length of my right side became completely paralyzed. I was quite helpless, and had to be lifted out of the bath and back to bed. I had no feeling at all on this side, and could not so much as lift a finger. My voice was so affected that I could not speak plainly, and others had difficulty in understanding what I tried to say. Throughout the day I tried to help myself as we are taught in Christian Science, but was not very successful in collecting my thoughts, so at about six o'clock I telephoned to my daughter, a Christian Science practitioner, who lived about eighty miles away, for help. An hour later I began to feel the effects of the treatment, and in the evening my voice became quite normal. I passed a fairly good night, and the next morning I awoke early to find that the paralysis had entirely disappeared and my right side was again normal in every respect; and not only that, but I was feeling stronger and better in other ways than I had done for perhaps two years past.

To mortal sense I am an octogenarian but it is a long time since I have been in bondage to the belief of old age. To calm the fears of some of those around me I consented to remain in bed most of Monday, but on Tuesday I was out at my usual occupation of gardening, "growing food for victory." as the slogan is. I have not had the slightest suggestion of this condition since, and indeed continue to feel stronger and more energetic than before the attack occurred. My healing made a great impression on the few who knew about it so much so that one of them announced her intention to attend Christian Science services and to obtain a copy of the textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

Written expressions of my unbounded gratitude for this wonderful healing would be quite inadequate but God knows what is in my heart. This experience was really a blessing in disguise, for it served to convince me even more completely than before of God's unlimited goodness and love, and has strengthened my determination constantly to try to live nearer to Him.—(Major) W. Cyprian Bridge, Camberley, Surrey, England.
