One of our hymns reminds us...
One of our hymns reminds us that "gratitude is riches," and so it is with sincere gratitude to God that I testify to the healing through Christian Science of a severe burn which was caused by drain solvent.
I had never used anything like that before, and did not know that the crystals would boil over. I put some in a jar and started to fill it with hot water. The solution quickly boiled over, running over my hand and splashing on my arm. As quickly as I could. I set the jar down. The pain was so intense that a great sense of fear came over me, and mortal mind suggested that I look at the label to see what remedy to apply. Then the "still small voice" said, Call a practitioner. This I immediately did. I was very fearful, and the practitioner told me not to look at the hand, adding that she would start to work for me at once. In about five minutes or so, the practitioner called me back and quoted some statements of truth from our textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I was still so full of fear that her words did not seem to mean much. However, as soon as I hung up the receiver, I felt a great sense of peace. I picked up a copy of The Christian Science Journal and read an article entitled "Casting Out Fear." As I read it, our Leader's words on page 14 of Science and Health came to me: "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual, —neither in nor of matter.—and the body will then utter no complaints." Then I thought of God as Life and intelligence, as Truth and Mind, and never in matter. I realized that since man is the reflection of all the divine qualities, nothing could prevent me from doing whatever it was right for me to do.
I had some washing and ironing to finish, and in about twenty minutes from the time I called the practitioner I was able to do them without pain. That evening I had to be in a place where the use of my hand was required, and I can truthfully say I was able to write freely. The redness had almost disappeared, and I realized I was healed.
