Effective Work in the Christian Science Organization

Christ Jesus said: "As ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give."

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer of Christian Science and the Founder of the Christian Science organization, knew the need of strict adherence to this command, for we read in the Manual of The Mother Church (p. 17), "At a meeting of the Christian Scientist Association, April 12, 1879, on motion of Mrs. Eddy, it was voted,—To organize a church designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing."

With our high calling as Christian Scientists ever before us we should be willing to lay aside prejudice, personal sense and its desires, and to co-operate with our fellow workers, accepting lovingly and humbly any task to which we may be assigned. To realize in full confidence that divine Love is working out its purpose, and that the healing and uplifting of mankind far outweigh any individual effort we may have to make in their behalf, brings gratitude, joy, and satisfaction. Listening for the voice of Truth, of impartial Love, to guide us we have no fear of working at cross purposes. As we reflect Love, we shall be kind, helpful, and just. We shall be led to work with God-inspired individuals, and we shall realize that each has a definite niche to fill and a duty to perform. We shall not be tempted to compare our job with that of our neighbor, but shall diligently attend to the work on hand, knowing that we are about our Father's business.
