Love's Lesson
Once
I labored hard and long,
But my toil was vain.
For I labored not to give;
My thoughts were all on gain.
Love has taught me selflessness,
The secret of true living;
For we must give if we would grow—
The richest joy is giving.
Now I seek not worldly gain,
My tasks are light and free;
For I know that as I give,
Good comes back to me.
