From early childhood I had studied the Bible and was active in church work. While pondering the healings of Jesus, I often prayed for the coming of the Christ, for the Christ-healing again to be established on earth. This prayer was answered when I found Christian Science. Old beliefs have passed away and newness of life has come through the faithful study of our revered Leader's writings.

After reaching maturity I had an illness for which I was subjected to a major operation. X-ray pictures taken at that time revealed aftereffects of pleurisy, which did not yield during ten years of medical treatment. In my daily work I became associated with members of the medical profession, but they could offer nothing more than the physicians whom I had previously consulted. To be told there was no hope embittered me, because I had my mother to care for.

A surgeon in this city advised me to study Christian Science. He said he had done all he could, and I knew the others had done their best. A member of my family had recently accepted Science, and offered me the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I was not willing to leave my religion, but there seemed no other way. I read the textbook and was healed, but was not aware of the healing until I applied for swimming lessons. A medical examination was required and showed my lungs to be in perfect condition. This was twenty-six years ago, and there has never been any recurrence of the trouble.
