If a friend were to ask of my...
If a friend were to ask of my experience in Christian Science, I should be eager to tell him how greatly I have benefited through its study and use. And so I feel a desire publicly to acknowledge, through our periodicals, that Christian Science has wonderfully blessed me, giving me an ever-unfolding appreciation of the fact that divine Mind governs man, gradually changing my thinking through the years to a more satisfying spiritual basis, and bringing me a much better understanding of what business, home, and health really are. This increased understanding has resulted in improved business conditions, happier home life, and better health.
I have found that the simple desire and decision to turn to and rely on Christian Science brings immediate blessing. Some years ago, at a Wednesday evening meeting, a testimony was given by one who had experienced quick freedom, through the application of Christian Science, when a cinder had lodged in his eye. Shortly thereafter a similar thing occurred to me. In spite of all my efforts to remove the particle, it became more firmly lodged in the eye, which became quite sore and inflamed.
I was making business calls at the time, and it was apparent something must be done if I was to continue. At this point I remembered the testimony referred to, and had a desire to rely completely on Christian Science. A short mental struggle followed, and then I made my decision, although as a new student it was not quite clear to me how to work in Christian Science. After I had walked a few steps farther, the thought again came, What are you going to do about it? I promptly decided to abide by my decision and turned my thought to "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468), beginning, "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter." Suddenly I felt the cinder move, and from that moment the eye was free, all irritation disappearing immediately.
