Trust in God's Protection

THROUGH the centuries have come songs of gratitude from those who have experienced God's protective care in times of stress. David, rejoicing in his liberation from his enemies, declared, "The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust."

Though present dangers appear overwhelming, struggles unrewarded, and burdens heavy, we can find encouragement in the inspiring words of our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 66), "Each successive stage of experience unfolds new views of divine goodness and love."

Centuries ago a student named Neumark, while traveling to a distant city, was attacked by robbers who took almost all that he had. As a result of this he wandered from place to place seeking employment. His confidence in God was finally rewarded, and so grateful was he that he immediately sat down and composed both words and music of a hymn which has been sung ever since. As specially arranged, a verse of his famous hymn reads:
