It became necessary for me to...

It became necessary for me to go out to India to my son, who had had a very serious accident. Although a devoted student of Christian Science, he was obliged to submit to medical treatment in a hospital, since he was under the care of the firm that employed him. Both he and I were greatly helped and encouraged by the Christian Scientists in that locality, who lovingly did all they could for him and kept in touch with me by cable. On receiving the first cable I applied for help from a Christian Science practitioner in London. According to the medical verdict the case was very serious, four inches of bone being missing just above the knee.

During the following months various conditions arose necessitating cables to the practitioner in London, but Christian Science treatment overcame each difficulty as it presented itself. When we sailed for England my son's employers still considered themselves responsible for him, and sent him home in the care of a nurse, as his leg was still in a plaster cast. We had a very long and rough voyage, undertaken during the monsoon.

When we got to the Red Sea an alarming symptom appeared in my son's foot causing great discomfort. According to medical opinion, this could not be relieved without removing the cast. The nurse thought the leg was poisoned, and to quiet her fears I promised to have the cast removed at Port Said unless the condition was corrected. I then sent a wireless message to the practitioner in London, and received a reply saying help was being given. There was an immediate improvement, and I remembered with gratitude that the children of Israel had passed safely through the Red Sea on dry land under God's protection, perhaps at this very spot, and I knew His power was as potent now as it was then.
