[Original testimony in Swedish]

In the first World War I served...

In the first World War I served as a soldier in the Austro-Hungarian army. What I went through completely shattered my mental poise. In 1917 I was pronounced unfit for war service by the staff of a military hospital. The medical certificate read: "Extreme cardiac neurosis with constant, severe functional disturbances."

In 1939 I came to Sweden to take care of a business matter. At that time I was physically and mentally wretched, in a state of mental confusion bordering on nervous collapse. To divert my thought from the day's business I went every day to the Stockholm Public Library and there I found The Herald of Christian Science. I read the testimonies of healing, and among others I found one which interested me very much, for it mentioned a condition similar to the illness which troubled me. I had a feeling that here might be help for me, though I had no notion of how or where.

Like a drowning man I held fast to this straw of hope and got in touch with a practitioner. The first enlightenment I received was that all the suffering and the inharmonious conditions I had experienced were illusions, and that one is not permitted to hate. I was directed to a Christian Science Reading Room and there I borrowed "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which I was advised to study with an open mind. I read with great eagerness and for the first time in my life God was revealed to me as divine Love, which meets every need.
