Notices
[As published in The Christian Science Monitor, September 9, 1944]
The Christian Science Board of Directors announces that, in the event of the issuance of a proclamation by the President of the United States, or the governors of the individual states, or a decision by the various religious denominations, to hold special services in their churches on the occasion of reaching an armistice, or the declaration of peace, in the European theater of war, those Churches of Christ, Scientist, which desire to do so are free to arrange for special services for thanksgiving and prayer. On such an occasion the Order of Service of the Wednesday evening meeting may be followed, using selections from the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" suitable for the occasion, but omitting the testimonies.
If the announcement of an armistice or a declaration of peace should come on the Sabbath day or on Wednesday, the regular church services, with a brief suitable announcement, read with the customary notices, would seem to be all that is required.
