In 1932, shortly after becoming...
In 1932, shortly after becoming a member of The Mother Church and of a branch church, my testimony was published in The Christian Science Journal. As I look back to that time and review the many blessings and healings which have come to me and to my loved ones through our study and application of Christian Science, I wish again to take advantage of the opportunity, so wisely provided by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for us to express our gratitude to God through our periodicals.
A few years ago, while riding in an automobile at a rapid speed, I discovered that the door of the car was not tightly closed on the side on which I was sitting. I opened the door to shut it tightly, and the force of the wind against it pulled it wide open, jerking me from the car and throwing me into the air. Although I received several severe blows on the head, when I fell to the ground I immediately sat up and said aloud, "God is my Life." My husband, who was driving the car, stopped as quickly as possible and ran back to me. While he was not a Christian Scientist, he was kindly toward it and had a slight understanding of it. As soon as he got to me I again said, "God is my Life." My husband took my hand and said, "Let us see if anything is broken." I replied, "I know that nothing is broken." I am grateful to say that I had no broken bones or internal injuries. Two of my teeth were slightly chipped. However, with the exception of my face, there was hardly a spot on my body where the skin was not torn and scraped. With my husband's help I was able to rise and walk to the car. He was frightened even more than I was, so I declared the truth aloud, repeating "the scientific statement of being," from page 468 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and various other passages from our textbook and from the Bible.
When we had driven some twenty miles to the nearest town, I was suffering greatly and becoming quite faint, and we sought out a Christian Science practitioner. She said that she had an extra room where we might stay for the night, and that she would help me. The next morning, with her help, I was able to continue our journey, which meant traveling all day. Upon arrival home the first practitioner was dismissed and another called who continued to give me Christian Science treatment. Within about ten days I was completely healed. Only one or two very small scars remained.
