Christian Science Committee on Publication for Devonshire, England, Reports

Freedom, already announced in terms of the Atlantic Charter and President Roosevelt's Four Freedoms, is now becoming articulate in the United Kingdom, also in a series of Government white papers, such as the Beveridge Report, the Uthwatt Report, and the Report on Youth Service, all presaging future legislation, and therefore calling for mental and spiritual vigilance. Freedom is indeed one of the main preoccupations of the Committee on Publication: freedom of the press, freedom from restrictive legislation, freedom to defend Christian Science, its Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and her followers from misrepresentation and malicious attack.

One of the desires made manifest during the past year in discussions in the press regarding education is that the children of the present generation shall not grow up in ignorance of Christianity. This is, undoubtedly, a vital and important question, and one in which Christian Scientists need to interest themselves. One of the most important of the syllabuses of religious teaching for schools is entitled "The Cambridge Syllabus of Religious Teaching for Schools, 1939."

The object of the Service of Youth, dealt with in a recent white paper, is to improve the condition of young men and young women during the period immediately after leaving school. The method by which Christian Science churches and societies as well as individual Christian Scientists are to meet this new obligation is obviously one for deep and careful consideration at the present time.
