There Is No Death

The question, "What is death?" is a puzzling and perplexing one. Many and varied have been the attempts to explain death, but most of these efforts have left it in the realm of mystery. Christian Science, while recognizing that to the material senses death is very real, gives us the complete answer, the only answer capable of proof: There is no death.

How, one may ask, can this statement be made with conviction when a friend or loved one has disappeared from our sight, and the loss seems great? On page 289 of the Christian Science textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, supplies the explanation: "The fact that the Christ, or Truth, overcame and still overcomes death proves the 'king of terrors' to be but a mortal belief, or error, which Truth destroys with the spiritual evidences of Life; and this shows that what appears to the senses to be death is but a mortal illusion, for to the real man and the real universe there is no death-process."

God is Truth, God is Life, and God is All. Death being the opposite of Life, and Life being All, there is no death. The evidence of death, being a contradiction of Life's allness, is the opposite of Truth, namely, an untruth. Truth being All, the evidence of death cannot possibly exist. Man, being the expression of Life and Truth, presents no evidence of anything opposite to himself; therefore man never dies.
