In the year 1906 we asked a Christian Science practitioner for help for a member of our family. The case was healed in a short time. I began reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and I want to say right here that the reading of this book worked wonders for me. It helped to regenerate and uplift me. I found the teachings of Science and Health so practical that my whole life was changed. I was healed of social drinking and of the tobacco habit in its worst form, also of profanity.

Over thirty years ago I was healed of sick headaches, and of stoppage of the bowels, from which I had suffered for a long time. Sometimes the pain seemed more than I could endure, and I would faint. This trouble was overcome in a few treatments by the work of a faithful practitioner, and I have had no return of the headaches. I had no idea how the work was accomplished. However, I did feel that I was on the right track, and time has surely proved this to me, because even at that early date I began to see splendid progress not only in health and protection, but in my business as well. I know for a certainty that studying the Christian Science textbook increases knowledge far beyond one's ordinary capacity.

Another healing took place in 1918 during the influenza epidemic. It was in November, the rush season in my line of business. Suddenly I became very ill with influenza. I called the practitioner on the telephone, and asked him if he would meet me at my home, because the case was urgent; I needed immediate help. He came out to my home, and talked a few minutes. The following morning I was back on the job bright and early. I had received an instantaneous healing. I continued working twelve to fourteen hours a day until the rush season was over, a period of more than sixty days. I never once thought of influenza again. I do not remember having been absent from work on account of illness since that time.
