"Alertness to Duty"

In recent months the term "enlisted" has often been in the foreground in connection with national defense preparations. The term carries with it an expression of honor to those who thus offer themselves for service to their country.

Our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 450), "The Christian Scientist has enlisted to lessen evil, disease, and death; and he will overcome them by understanding their nothingness and the allness of God, or good."

What a glorious cause for which to have enlisted—"to lessen evil, disease, and death"! The world today is in great need of healing, the healing of hatred, greed, envy, cruelty, aggression, and their attendant train of fear, discouragement, pain, privation, suffering, and death.
