Christian Science has given me an abiding sense of the omnipresence of God, good, ever since I was a little boy, and my greatest joy has been to feel God's gracious hand tenderly leading me onward and upward toward spiritual happiness.

I owe a large debt of gratitude to my mother, who felt that a thorough understanding of God was more important to me than anything else. Her loving persistence in requiring that I study the weekly Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly never yielded to that insidious argument of the so-called carnal mind that a child should be allowed to decide this for himself.

My opportunities for attending Sunday school were few. However, the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, were constant companions in our home, and because of the great good that I derived from these books, the Word of God, I have never taken a drop of medicine. Numerous epidemics of children's diseases which raged in our country community never became attached to me in any form.
